Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control Breaking Barriers for Spanish-Speaking Community
Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (FoDACC) is thrilled to announce its commitment to bridging the gap between its services and the Spanish-speaking population of Detroit.
Understanding that language and immigration status should never hinder access to owning or caring for a pet, FoDACC is dedicated to ensuring that all Detroiters, regardless of their background, have equal opportunities to engage with and benefit from our services.
At FoDACC, we believe in inclusivity and accessibility for all members of our community. To that end, we are proud to offer a range of initiatives designed to make our services more accessible to Spanish speakers:
Inclusive Forms of Identification: The community is encouraged to embrace the opportunity to adopt or foster pets from DACC, reclaim lost pets, license their beloved companions, and participate as volunteers with Friends of DACC, irrespective of immigration status. DACC happily accepts various forms of identification, including the City of Detroit ID, ensuring accessibility to all.
Volunteering Opportunities: The community is welcome to volunteer at FoDACC, regardless of immigration status or language proficiency. To further facilitate involvement, we now offer monthly volunteer orientations conducted in Spanish.
Translation Services: FoDACC recognizes the importance of effective communication. To assist Spanish-speaking individuals in navigating our services, we have dedicated Spanish translation services available every Saturday.
Free Vaccine and Microchip Clinic: In partnership with Dog Aide, Oliver's Foundation, Waggin' Tails, and Detroiters Helping Each Other, FoDACC is hosting a free vaccine and microchip clinic in southwest Detroit. This event will provide essential veterinary services to pets in need and will have Spanish-speaking volunteers and translation services are readily available to assist attendees.
Furthermore, to celebrate the richness of Spanish-speaking cultures represented in Detroit, we are delighted to announce that a Detroit-based Colombian dance troop will be performing at the free vaccine and microchip clinic. This cultural celebration serves as a reminder of the diverse tapestry that makes up our community and the importance of embracing and honoring all its facets.
