Thursday Has a New Name In Detroit Thanks to Furry Thursdays
One of the best days of the week now has a new nickname thanks to new, extended hours for dog adoption in Detroit. Starting March 7, Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control is hosting Furry Thursdays - offering extended hours for dog adoptions until 8:00 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at Detroit Animal Care and Control.
While the shelter is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for pet adoptions, Furry Thursdays at DACC will run until 8:00 p.m. the first Thursday of the month to give people time in the evening during the week to come meet adoptable dogs. Furry Thursdays are a win for people who want more options and more time to meet adoptable dogs and a win for the dogs themselves, increasing their chances of finding loving homes through extended shelter hours.
Furry Thursday dates for Spring 2024 are:
March 7
April 4
May 5
Attending a Furry Thursday is easy. All you need to do is go to DACC any time between 10:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. the first Thursday of the month. Volunteers will help you meet adoptable dogs currently in the shelter. If there is a good fit for you and one of the dogs, complete the application and adoption process and take the pup home with you that day. DACC is located at 7401 Chrysler Drive in Detroit. Parking is free.
All adoptable dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are fully vaccinated. Adoptees receive a month’s worth of flea, tick, and heartworm preventative along with a goodie bag full of toys, treats, food, and more.
Adopters must be 18 years or older, have a valid ID, apply, and complete the adoption process. There is a requested $100 dog adoption fee that helps Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control, a nonprofit organization, support and care for other homeless pets.
Adopting a dog is a rewarding experience. You can save their life and add a lot of joy and happiness to yours. Visit www.friendsofdacc.org to learn more about Furry Thursdays and see the many adoptable dogs in the shelter and in foster care looking for loving homes.
